It makes me very proud to call myself one of the original GetThere students! In 2011, my penultimate year at AISK, I was fortunate enough to cross paths with Alicia, who took me through what was arguably the most impactful tutoring experience I had ever had: SAT Chemistry. Alicia dealt with me in a remarkably down-to-earth way and treated me like a whole person – breaking the ubiquitous student-teacher barrier to amazing effect. This aided my learning drastically. I was inspired, and we have been the best of friends ever since…

Admittedly, I think it’s a little cliché to say that if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life. However, throughout my experience as a tutor, my students have become my true friends, many from the very get-go. And to me, this is one of the things that confirms the truth buried within that statement.

After seven years at AISK, I attended UPenn School of Engineering in West Philly, where I earned a masters degree in mechanical engineering. One of the many things I learned in college is that the world needs more engineers… and that I will definitely not be one of them. During my second summer break at UPenn, I came back to Jamaica and tutored two students in the SSAT. The rest, as they say, is history. Fast-forward 3 years, and my mere interest in tutoring and education has turned into a true passion. I am now a part of a fresh, determined, and ever-growing team of tutors with a common goal: to give students a holistic educational experience and, in doing so, to empower them for their lives ahead.
